History of Vocal art in quotes part 7 Rosati Gigli Lanza (To cover or not to cover?)

History of Vocal art in quotes and ideas by Franco Tenelli. Beniamino Gigli (March 20, 1890 – November 30, 1957)[1] was an Italian opera singer. The most famous tenor of his generation, he was renowned internationally for the great beauty of his voice and the soundness of his vocal technique. Music critics sometimes took him to task, however, for what was perceived to be the over-emotionalism of his interpretations. Nevertheless, such was Gigli’s talent, he is considered to be one of the very finest tenors in the recorded history of music. Biography Gigli was born in Recanati, in the Marche, the son of a shoe-maker who loved opera. His brother Lorenzo became a famous Italian painter. In 1914, he won first prize in an international singing competition in Parma. His operatic debut came on October 15, 1914 when he played Enzo in Amilcare Ponchielli’s La Gioconda in Rovigo, following which he was in great demand. Gigli made many important debuts in quick succession, and always in Mefistofele: Teatro Massimo di Palermo (March 31, 1915), Teatro San Carlo di Napoli (December 26, 1915), Teatro Costanzi di Roma (December 26, 1916), La Scala (November 19, 1918), and finally the Metropolitan (November 26, 1920). Two other great Italian tenors present on the roster of Met singers during the 1920s also happened to be Gigli’s chief contemporary rivals for tenor supremacy in the Italian repertory—namely, Giovanni Martinelli and Giacomo Lauri-Volpi. 9. Don Quixote, Part I: Chapters XXVII-XXXV (cont.)

火曜日, 1月 24th, 2012

Cervantes’ Don Quixote (SPAN 300) The insertion of the Novel of the Curious Impertinent at the end of part one of the Quixote may be explained by Cervantes’ intention of meshing both the forms of the chivalric romance and of the collection of Italian novelle. The result, though awkward, leads to the creation of the modern novel. This short novel seems to have been included by Cervantes as a way to publishing it in the same way.. Reading the novel out loud, with all the characters gathered connects with the old tradition of reading literature out loud. The irony, however, is that this perverse love story is heard in the voice of the priest. González Echevarría interprets the novel trough René Girard’s theory of love always mediated by a third person who also works as a motivator. The story gives a contrasting mirror of literature to the young people at the inn who are involved in love stories about to culminate in marriage. Don Quixote’s interruption of the reading allows the court-like scene of reconciliations among the various couples and all restitutions which were made, as a reaffirmation of new social forms. Cervantes’ point is that mental life is made up of levels that mirror and distort each other. 00:00 – Chapter 1. The Insertion of The Novel of the Curious Impertinent 20:18 – Chapter 2. Don’t Settle…Get a Man on Your Level (Part 2)

月曜日, 12月 26th, 2011

People may often say that it is your responsibility to lower your standards and “date down” or “marry down.” However, if you strove to make something of yourself, it’s only fair that you ask as much of a lifelong mate as you’ve asked of yourself. In addition to love, moral values, family values, beliefs, etc., there is no shame in also considering whether a potential life partner is as education-oriented and goal-oriented and about as successful as you are. If education and the process of setting, striving for and achieving goals are things you admire about yourself and desire to pass down to your children, there’s no shame if you’d prefer for the man you choose to father them to set that example. Be cautious of those who put effort into tearing down your standards rather than rising to meet them. Those who call you “gold-digger” for wanting a partner who pulls his own weight in the relationship are probably the gold-diggers themselves, looking for YOU to be their meal ticket. This is an interracial channel, thus I used only interracial photos as examples. I shouldn’t even have to explain myself – so if you make me do so by feigning confusion, you will be blocked, and the video’s title and content will remain unchanged. Wicked The Musical Documentary Part 1

火曜日, 12月 20th, 2011

All Rights Reserved to Universal Studios BROADWAY: THE AMERICAN MUSICAL DOCUMENTARY The documentary about Broadway musicals! Wicked is a Tony Award-winning Broadway and West End musical, with songs and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman. The story is based on the best-selling novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, a parallel novel of L. Frank Baum’s classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz. Wicked tells the story of Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. (In the album notes, Gregory Maguire explained that he derived the name “Elphaba” from the initials of L. Frank Baum.) Their friendship struggles through their opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, their reactions to the Wizard’s corrupt government, and, ultimately, Elphaba’s public fall from grace. The plot is set mostly before Dorothy’s arrival from Kansas, and includes several references to well-known scenes and dialogue in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz as a backstory. The musical debuted on Broadway on October 30, 2003. It was produced by Universal Pictures and directed by Joe Mantello, with musical staging by Wayne Cilento. Its original stars were Idina Menzel as Elphaba, Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda, and Joel Grey as the Wizard.[1] Although the production received mixed reviews and was panned
